Family Communication
I believe that student learning is enhanced when teachers and families work together. It is my goal as a teacher to establish connections with the families of my students. In order to do this, I provide many opportunities to communicate with families. Here are some ways that I do this:
- Introduction Letter: This is my first step in forming relationships with families. In this letter, I introduce myself as both a person and as a teacher. In this way, I am providing families with ways they can communicate with myself along with promoting active parent involvement in the classroom and at home.
- Emails: I also use emails for quick communication with families that have access to Internet and email services. This communication serves as a quick and convenient way to provide immediate communication with families. I also send out my weekly newsletters electronically as well as in a hard copy. I also pick families each week to send a positive email about his/her child. These positive emails strengthen the relationship between home and school while continuing to build trust.
- Phone Calls: I also use phone calls for quick communication with families who prefer talking on the phone versus emails or text messages.
- Newsletters: Weekly newsletters are sent home consistently titled as the “Clark Communication.” These newsletters update parents on important information while also providing a peek into what the learning will look like throughout the week. Newsletters can include information about field trips, subject area units, tests, projects, school and classroom events, volunteer needs and homework tips or reminders.
- Classroom website: I utilize a classroom website that families can access to check for weekly updates on curriculum and dates. You can check out our third grade website at www.clarkthirdgradeweebly.com.
- Classroom Blog: I utilize a classroom blog that families can access to see what is going on daily in our classroom. This blog is used to display student projects and everyday happenings! You can check out our third grade happenings at clarkthirdgrade.weebly.com/our-class-blog.
- Remind: I send out important reminders and updates using the app, Remind which sends emails/text messages to parents who have signed up.
